Verdict: Even the Student Council Has Its Holes! (Seitokai ni mo Ana wa Aru!) is Muchimaro’s short-gag 4-koma about a lazy first-year boy, Ume Mizunoe, who joins a student council full of oddballs to avoid repeating a year. The humour is shōnen-magazine naughty: innuendo, a closet-pervert president and plenty of light fanservice. The original has no agenda and no DEI content. Its one gender-bending character, the pretty-boy PR officer Tan, is a boy who hates cross-dressing, and it’s a running gag. The issue is the English digital edition. Kodansha’s K MANGA app puts black boxes over some chapters’ nudity to meet app-store rules. The Seven Seas print volumes, which began in September 2026, are the lane to watch for the uncut English read.

This is the standing page for the Seitokai ni mo Ana wa Aru! manga, which has run in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since 27 Apr 2022. It’s also on the Magazine Pocket app. There were 13 Shōnen Magazine Comics volumes as of 17 Aug 2026. The English editions are K MANGA’s digital chapters (from 7 Apr 2026) and the Seven Seas Ghost Ship volumes (vol. 1 on 8 Sep 2026). The Passione TV anime premieres on 4 Oct 2026 and is mentioned below; it doesn’t have its own page. New evidence gets merged here; the URL stays fixed.

How the score breaks down

Scored against our How we score rules:

• Story, cast and creator intent: 0.
  • The format: it’s a slice-of-life gag strip. The title is a pun: ana means both a “hole” (a flaw or blind spot) and something ruder.
  • The cast:
    • Ume, the humanities kid who is hopeless at science;
    • Hisako Kotobuki, the ponytailed president and secret pervert;
    • Arisu Terui, the rich treasurer;
    • Komaro Michinoku, the tiny, busty secretary;
    • Satomi Hiratsuka, the slovenly adviser;
    • Tan Otori, the middle-school PR officer.
  • Reception and intent: the series won the comics category of the 2023 Next Manga Award and had 2.7 million copies in print. Toshiyuki Ujiie (Seitokai Yakuindomo) wrote a support message when it launched. Muchimaro has made no statement about representation goals, and nothing in the cast was added to meet one.
• Tan Otori: 0. Tan is an otokonoko, a boy with a girlish look. He uses it to his advantage but explicitly doesn’t like cross-dressing. The Japanese text and every official profile treat him as a boy. It’s a standard manga trope, not a gender-identity storyline. We found no reader report that either English edition gives him they/them or she/her.
• Official English digital censorship (K MANGA): +5.
  • What readers report: Kodansha’s own English simulpub on K MANGA (translated by Susamaji, lettered by Jan Lan Ivan Concepcion, edited by Sarah Tilson) arrived in April 2026. Readers in r/manga’s discussion threads report black boxes over nudity: “some chapters are uncensored, others are 90% black boxes”, with chapter 105 named as one. Several readers add that “the translation for the official version is fine, but the censoring is wack”.
  • Kodansha’s stated policy: Kodansha told Bounding Into Comics (25 May 2023) that it has to make “unavoidable modifications” on K MANGA to comply with Apple and Google’s terms. The browser version carries the same edits.
  • Why only +5: the censorship is of sexual content, forced by app-store rules. It isn’t ideological rewriting, and the original is untouched.
• Track-record rule (rule B), Seven Seas: +5. Seven Seas publishes the English volumes under its Ghost Ship mature imprint. It has a documented record: the Mushoku Tensei and Classroom of the Elite soft edits (2021) and its admitted “respectful and inclusive” gender rewrite of I Think I Turned My Childhood Friend Into a Girl (2022); see our Seven Seas page. We apply the low end because we found no documented edit in its volume 1.
  • Kodansha USA: we don’t apply rule B to it separately. Its incident in this title (the K MANGA black boxes) is already scored above, and we don’t count the same thing twice.
• Translation: 0. We found no reports of injected inclusive language, pronoun talk or rewritten jokes in the K MANGA text. Readers who complained about the censorship called the translation itself fine.
• Women and rule E: neutral, not scored. The girls are anime-style: cute, weird, sometimes lewd. Hisako is capable at everything and secretly pervy. There’s no Western girlboss writing and no men-as-idiots framing beyond ordinary gag-manga clowning, which goes both ways.
• Consultancy (rule A): none found. No sensitivity or diversity reader is credited on the Japanese, K MANGA or Seven Seas editions.
• Remake rule (rule C): doesn’t apply. We found no re-edition that changed content.
• Rule D (green flag): not found. There’s no progressive-press attack on the manga so far. The anime premieres on 4 Oct 2026, and any feminist review of it gets merged here.

Confirmed findings

• Serialisation: the series runs in Weekly Shōnen Magazine (issue 22–23 of 2022, 27 Apr 2022), not only on Magazine Pocket. Volume 1 came out on 16 Sep 2022, and volume 13 on 17 Aug 2026.
• The Seven Seas licence (announced 14 Jan 2026, Ghost Ship imprint, “aimed at older male readers”):
  • vol. 1 on 8 Sep 2026 ($13.99, ISBN 979-8-89863-067-6);
  • vol. 2 on 8 Dec 2026;
  • vol. 3 on 9 Mar 2027;
  • ebooks too.
  • The publisher’s own blurb pitches it as “a little bit naughty”, so there’s no sign it plans to sanitise the tone.
• K MANGA: the English chapters started on 7 Apr 2026, updated every Tuesday. Kodansha’s K MANGA launch coverage (Bounding Into Comics, 2023) documented black-bar censorship for app compliance, for example on Domestic Girlfriend.
• The anime: Passione, directed by Naoyuki Tatsuwa, on TOKYO MX and others from 4 Oct 2026. AT-X is advertising a restriction-lifted (規制解除版) version, so the TV and uncut split is the usual one. This doesn’t count against the manga.

• In English: the Seven Seas Ghost Ship volumes (vol. 1 out 8 Sep 2026). They’re the print lane that isn’t bound by app-store rules. We haven’t personally confirmed they’re uncut.
• Avoid if you want it uncut: K MANGA (Kodansha’s English app and website). The translation is fine, but some chapters’ nudity is black-boxed.
• Anime: watch the AT-X restriction-lifted broadcast or a later disc release rather than the standard TV version.
