Eternights
Verdict: Eternights is a Persona-inspired dating-action game from Studio Sai (Jae Yoo) that intentionally ships a same-sex romance option (Yohan) and was framed by LGBT / progressive press as fixing Persona’s gatekeeping. That is progressive packaging of inclusive romance, not a full HR-DEI lecture product. Score the intentional queer-romance differentiator; do not inflate it into pronouns-menu / story-lecture wokeness the evidence does not show. Also: the game remains heavily suggestive / “degen” fanservice with heterosexual default pressure in writing.
Woke Score: 42/100 — deliberate gay romance + progressive “better than Persona” framing; offset by absent pronouns/HR checklist, creator focus on emotional apocalypse bonds over activist lecture, and strong non-political fanservice tone.

Confirmed: intentional same-sex romance (Yohan)
Studio Sai publicly confirmed Yohan is dateable for the male protagonist (developer reply covered by Gayming Magazine, 2022). The romance is real in-game: flirt in dreams early; in-person path opens late (final-act / Courage-gated per Gayming Mag how-to). Players can kiss, hold hands, and date him like the women (Yuna, Min, Sia). Dialogue can affirm interest in “boys” too when teased about saving the world to pick up girls.
Progressive outlets (Gayming Mag, GameRant) explicitly sold this as succeeding where Persona failed on queer male romance. That is intentional progressive packaging, not an accidental cast cameo.
Confirmed: not a DEI checklist product
Creator interviews (GameRant with Jae Yoo) emphasise:
- Emotional connection, finding yourself, failing and moving on
- Apocalypse pressure + calendar time-split between dates and dungeons
- Aesthetic (indigo / magenta dream palette), combat thrill, 2D cinema for emotion
Not marketed: pronouns menu, pride-campaign identity settings, or a lecture arc about systemic DEI. ESRB M summary (Blood and Gore, Strong Language, Suggestive Themes, Violence) documents innuendo, porn jokes, cleavage poster — suggestive dating sim, not sanitised corporate inclusionware.
Steam mature-content blurb: implicit sexual behaviour, violence/gore. Publishers on Steam: Studio Sai, Kepler Ghost (console ESRB lists Maximum Games for some SKUs). User prompt “Road to Games” is not the primary credit on the live Steam page — treat Studio Sai / Kepler Ghost as the evidenced chain.
Writing friction (nuance, not a free pass)
Kotaku and others noted the script often assumes multi-interest — hard to roleplay a strictly single-target or exclusively gay path without the game still pushing other love interests. Gayming Mag also criticised Yohan arriving late vs the women. Those are craft / balance complaints; they do not erase the intentional queer option or the progressive press framing.
Platform censorship?
No credible public record of a major Western platform scrubbing Eternights’ sexual/suggestive content into a uniquely censored SKU for politics. Treat regional rating differences as ordinary ratings unless a before/after patch or region-diff dump appears — then update this page.
DEI Detector scorecard

| Pronouns / HR-checklist DEI packaging | Absent |
| DEI story lecture as core apocalypse theme | Weak / absent (identity-of-self themes ≠ DEI checklist) |
| Suggestive / fanservice dating-sim tone | Strong (ESRB + reviews) |
| Platform sexual censorship for modern politics | Not established |
Recommendation
Play Eternights if you want a short horny Persona-like with action combat. Expect one intentional gay romance path and progressive marketing around it — that is why the score sits mid, not near zero. Do not confuse “inclusive romance option” with a full DEI narrative product; do not pretend the queer option was accidental either.
